Sport at Brooklyn School
Brooklyn School helps develop students confidence through allowing them many opportunities to get involved in sport. This not only develops skills and knowledge but integrity and resilience as well as having loads of fun!
Classroom Physical Education programmes develop skills and knowledge across a wide range of sporting codes. A number of outside organisations also come into school to develop interest and further skills, such as, Small Sticks Hockey and Wellington Cricket. This year has seen all syndicates participate in eight sports sessions at the ASB Centre in Kilbirnie, where trained coaches take Turbo Touch, Badminton, Gymnastics, Handball, Floorball, Ultimate Frisbee and more.
During the school year students will participate in the following sports to gain entry into the Central Zone competitions which is open to students from Years 4-8.
Term 1 Term 2 Term 3
*Athletics *Cross Country *Swimming
(Full school) (Years 3-8) (Years 4-8)
Other Central Zone competitions throughout the year are; soccer, netball and winter games.
*Students who gain top placings will advance to Inter Zone and then Regional Competitions.
A highlight for the senior students in years 7/8 is their Wadestown and Carterton School Exchanges (Tri Tournament) which are held every year in Term Three.
Basketball
We have a number of school basketball teams.
Both boys and girls make up the teams that play on either Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday nights at the ASB Sports Centre in Kemp Street, Kilbirnie.
Football
For many years, students from Brooklyn School have registered to play football with Brooklyn Northern United. Both girls and boys can play. Please click here for more information
Netball
The school is also very proud of their numerous netball teams.
Both boys and girls can be part of the teams which compete in the Motu Kairangi Saturday competition.
All games are played at Evans Bay Intermediate School, Kemp Street, Kilbirnie
